For the second time in less than 10 days, Columbus police are investigating a mass shooting.
A mass shooting is defined as any shooting in which four or more people are injured. Mass killings are defined as those shootings that result in four or more people being killed.
Here's a look at 12 mass shootings in Franklin County during 2023 and 2024. All but two have occurred between midnight and 6 a.m.
June 23, 2024 — 1100 block of North High Street
When: 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the 1100 block of North High Street in the Short North area
Circ*mstances: The details of what led up to the shooting or possible motives have not been provided by Columbus police.
Victims: The shooting resulted in 10 people between the ages of 16 and 27 being injured. All are expected to survive.
Status: Deangelo Fuller, who Columbus police say drove the car that a suspect who was seen running from the scene got into, has been arrested.
June 14, 2024 — 205 N. 5th St.
When: 1:45 a.m. outside the Aura dance club on North 5th Street in Downtown
Circ*mstances: A shooting inside the club escalated outside.
Victims: Desmond Taylor, 27, and Ceilin Ricard Peakes Smith, 36, died in the shooting. Two other people were injured but survived.
Status: Columbus police have charged 26-year-old Jaquez Hoover with two counts of murder. As of Monday, Hoover remains at large.
June 1, 2024 — 500 block of North Ohio Avenue
When: 11:05 p.m. on the 500 block of North Ohio Avenue on the Near East Side
Circ*mstances: Columbus police Deputy Chief Smith Weir said the shooting after a fight happened at a "make-shift after hours club" in an alley or garage.
Victims: Ein Johnson, 39, died in the shooting. Three other people were injured but survived.
Status: Columbus police have not identified any suspects.
May 18, 2024 — 132 E. 5th Ave.
When: 2:45 a.m. outside the MIA Hookah Lounge at 132 E. 5th Ave. in Italian Village
Circ*mstances: Weir said the lounge was being used as an after hours club.
Victims: Malachi Pee, 27, Da'ondre Bullock, 18 and Garcia Dixon Jr., 26, died in the shooting. Three other people were injured but survived.
Status: Columbus police have not identified any suspects in the shooting, however, one person has been charged with a weapons-related offense.
Dec. 2, 2023 — 400 block of North Ohio Ave
When: 4:35 a.m. outside a home on the 400 block of North Ohio Avenue on the Near East Side
Circ*mstances: Columbus police said the victims reported a verbal altercation escalated into shots being fired as the victims were leaving a home.
Victims: Four victims, three adults and one juvenile, were shot and all survived.
Status: Weir said a suspect, who he did not identify, has been charged. Other charges were illegal gambling were also filed, Weir said.
Oct. 18, 2023 — 207 Winner Ave.
When: 5:15 p.m. on the 200 block of Winner Avenue on the Near East Side
Circ*mstances: A fight between multiple people resulted in shots being fired.
Victims: Four people, including two juveniles, were injured in the shooting. All victims survived.
Status: Darius Edwards, 36, has been charged with multiple counts of felonious assault and is awaiting trial.
May 29, 2023 — 4855 Pintail Creek Drive
When: 12:30 a.m. in a parking lot on the Southeast Side
Circ*mstances: The shooting occurred at a block party in a parking lot where vehicles were doing donuts. The party had been advertised on social media.
Victims: Seven people were injured in the shooting but survived.
Status: Columbus police have not identified any suspects in the shooting.
May 6, 2023 — 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue
When: 3:30 a.m. at a home on the 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue in South Linden
Circ*mstances: The victim's boyfriend shot her and then other members of her family before taking his own life.
Victims: Taylin Roland, 28, died in the shooting. Four other people were injured in the shooting but survived.
Status: Keith Pleasant, the suspect in the shooting, died by suicide.
May 6, 2023 — 624 N. High St.
When: 2:30 a.m. on 600 block of North High Street in the Short North
Circ*mstances: Gunshots were exchanged between two groups of people, injuring multiple victims. Columbus police officers who were working in the area also fired their weapons.
Victims: At least 10 people were hurt and survived.
Status: No charges have been filed in the shooting. A grand jury determined the officers would not face charges. One of the people who was shot in the incident has sued Columbus police.
March 18, 2023 — 1570 S. High St.
When: 5:10 a.m. at Tha Plug after hours club in Merion Village
Circ*mstances: A fight escalated into gunshots at the after hours club.
Victims: Antwaun Artis, 21, and Jayden Peaco*ck, 22, died from injuries they suffered in the shooting. Four other people were injured.
Status: A suspect in the case, Kalen King, was initially charged with murder for Peaco*ck's death. The case was later dismissed by prosecutors for lack of evidence to support a conviction.
Jan. 29, 2023 — 1680 Karl Ct.
When: 2:15 a.m. at The Dollhouse gentleman's club in the Northland neighborhood
Circ*mstances: A fight inside the club ended in gunfire.
Victims: Charles T. Smith, 37, died in the shooting. Three other people were injured in the shooting.
Status: The suspect in the shooting, Travis Ingram, has been charged with murder and is awaiting trial.
Jan. 1, 2023 — 2830 Johnstown Road
When: 2:30 a.m. at Bucks Platinum Club in Mifflin Township
Circ*mstances: A fight began inside the bar that resulted in the shooting.
Victims:Charles Westbrook, 28, died in the shooting. Four other people were injured.
Status: Two people were arrested in connection with the shooting. Court records show Charles Foster was initially charged with murder, however, a grand jury declined to issue an indictment in the case. A second suspect, Jermaine Westbrook, pleaded guilty to felonious assault and was sentenced to a minimum of five years and a maximum of six years in prison.
