Any official DnD5e support for FoundryVTT? - General Discussion - D&D Beyond General - D&D Beyond Forums (2024)

Hi,

Are there any official modules for FoundryVTT? Similar to the way that Paizo officially supports playing via FoundryVTT, and has published official Foundry modules for several of their Pathfinder 2e adventure paths?

I really want to use a VTT, but want to stay as far away from Roll20 as possible?

My only other option seems to be to use the Discord bot, and run theatre of the mind games with a psudo VTT in the form of MS Teams screen sharing. Which didn't work out when I tried it.

The reason I like FoundryVTT is that I can run it on a server, housed in a data centre with a direct Internet connection, so anyone can visit the game site address like vtt.mydomain.com and login to the game, providedI have created them a user account.

Or is it like Roll20, where I can't self-host, and need to pay a subscriptoon fee?

While the support on Foundry VTT for 5e is unofficial, it's actually quite excellent. There are plugins for D&D beyond, scrapers and all sorts of fancy tools. In a lot of ways the VTT Foundry support for 5e is way better than anything official from Wizards of The Coast for the other platforms.

This. They’re making their own, so I doubt you’ll see them expanding to more 3rd party sites.
Last announcement said they hoped to have some kind of testing (maybe an open beta, but I don’t remember exactly) by the end of this year. Otherwise there have been some sizzle reel style videos, but no more details.

I run Foundry and own maybe 2/3rds of the currently available books on here.
There's nothing I own on DDB that I can't access Via Foundry - I pay 2x subscription fees. One for my server and one Patreon sub $5/month for access to the Importer feature.

Foundry issued a press release last week announcing a partnership with hasbro. It apparently covers 5e and also 6e when it arrives. The press release FAQ also states that Foundry will continue to support 5e. How they will do that, I am unsure of, but Foundry is unlikely to lie about such an explicit statement.
